What is the difference between EPIC-M and EPIC-X?

EPIC-X is the production-run camera that includes the standard 1-year warranty. EPIC-M is hand-assembled by a dedicated team in California with machined parts utilized in key locations. EPIC-M also includes a second year of warranty coverage.

Will EPIC-M and EPIC-X have the same upgrades and firmware?

Yes. They are both eligible for the same hardware upgrades and firmware updates.

How can you offer EPIC at this price when SCARLET-X is so much cheaper?

Data rates and processing power. Our EPIC series utilizes state-of-the-art ASICs that have pushed the EPIC to reach previously unattainable tech specs and dimensions.

Am I able to clean the sensor inside my camera?

You should only need to clean the OLPF which is the filter positioned in front of the sensor. While cleaning the OLPF, try a bubble blower first to remove some of the dust and only use sensor swabs with appropriate solution for cleaning the OLPF. You want to try and get it with a single pass per side of swab in order to not smear debris around.

Am I able to get RED Armor extended warranty for EPIC-X and EPIC-M?

Yes, RED Armor is available for EPIC-X and EPIC-M for $2,850.

Are firmware upgrades be free for EPIC?

Yes.

Are all features be enabled in EPIC when it ships?

No. We will continue to add features as time goes on, some of which were never expected. SCARLET-X feature additions and improvements will happen simultaneously with EPIC.

How does the EPIC-M upgrade program work?

RED Digital Cinema announces the EPIC-M Upgrade Program. As a service to our EPIC-M customers, we will begin upgrading EPIC-M brains and certain accessories to current factory EPIC-X specifications to at no cost. The highlights of the brain upgrade include: internal board updates, improved REDLink antenna, OLPF port bushing, aluminum heatsinks (lighter weight with no impact on performance), new exterior mechanicals including top that provides additional mounting points, and an improved fan. We will also be asking for you to return the following for evaluation and potential updating: PL mount, Side SSD Module, DSMC Side Handle, REDMote, and Touch LCD 5".

Depending on when your product was manufactured, not all of the updates may apply as they may already be integrated into your product. If we do not need to update any of the items, we will let you know.

As an EPIC-M owner, you don’t need to do anything to take advantage of this free upgrade. RED will begin contacting customers beginning the week of April 23rd, 2012. The upgrade will be performed at RED facility in California ONLY.
