Aaron Lieber Wins REDirect Surf

Last night, RED and Surfer hosted a private event to commemorate the second installment of the REDirect competition. Hosted at the ArcLight Hollywood, the audience received a special presentation of the contestant videos in 4K. After the screening, the evening's Emcee multimedia sports personality, Chris Cot made the winner announcements to the eager crowd. Judged by a distinguished panel from both the filmmaking and surfing worlds, each of the contestants received points for both the cinematic qualities of the submissions as well as the epic surfing they captured.

The REDirect competition's Grand Prize went to Aaron Lieber, for his portayal of Noah Beschen in "The Wild." Set in Hawaii, Aaron captured stunning images of Noah as he ran through lush forests and swam with sharks in the ocean. Valued at over $50,000, Aaron's received a custom-engraved EPIC DRAGON camera and the rest of the kit he used to shoot for REDirect Surf which includes a REDMAG 1.8" Side SSD, three 240 GB REDMAGs, a DSMC Side Handle, DSMC Ti Canon Mount, RED Touch 5" LCD, a Lowpro DryZone 200 backpack, and G-Dock ev storage options.

David Malcolm won the second place prize a Battle-Tested SCARLET MYSTERIUM-X camera brain for "Los Zapatos," a story about Dylan Graves saving the children of Puerto Rico from technology. Walking away with both the third place prize of an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription as well as the Fan Favorite award was Erik Knutson for his portrayal of John John Florence in "Being a Surfer is Fun." Nominated by the REDirect fans, the Fan Favorite award was a custom-designed 6' ‹Lost surfboard.
