RED BTS: The Mint 400
July 8th, 2014

Go behind the scenes with RED® as we explore The Mint 400, North America's oldest active off-road desert race. Among the most grueling challenges in racing, The Mint pits drivers in twenty vehicle classes against 100 miles of desert—and each other.

The race—defunct between 1998 and 2008—was revived when Mad Media owners Matt and Josh Martelli purchased it from the Southern Nevada Off Road Enthusiasts Group.

Mad Media is best known for their Gymkhana viral marketing video series, shot with a pair of RED ONE® cameras. As longtime advocates of RED, the Martelli Brothers have used over a dozen different crews equipped with RED EPIC® cameras to capture The Mint 400's intense action from every angle.

Shot in the heat of Nevada's desert, the five-day event was condensed into a 90-minute thrill-ride for NBC Sport's primetime broadcast on Sunday, July 7th. Presented by Mad Media as part of the Red Bull Signature Series, the race reached over 140 million viewers in the United States alone, marking The Mint's revival as one of America's most notable racing events.
