    ENGADGET INTERVIEWS TED

    image

“If you look around CES, this seems to be clearly the year of 4K. And if you think about what is the real viable cameras that can achieve that resolution, there’s essentially RED and… RED right now.”

Engadget sat down with RED’s main mouthpiece Ted Schilowitz for an interview that touched on the entire history of RED before focusing on the Scarlet — “probably the geekiest camera of them all.”

We don’t want to spoil anything but it’s very cool to listen to Ted talk about the history of Scarlet:

This thing went through an evolution.. an image fidelity revolution in our own mind…

    CINEMA 5D REVIEWS SCARLET-X

Cinema 5D does an in-depth, hands-on video review of the Scarlet-X highlighting the camera and basic accessories. The host, Sebastian, gives a no-nonsense presentation that’s easy for RED users and new users to follow. Of course, we appreciate this summary:

The images that come out of this tool are really stunning. The fact that it records RAW and looks like 35mm film at this price point is revolutionary to me.

There is also a second part of the review where Sebastian discusses third-party accessories.

In addition to the review, we checked out Cinema 5D’s short film, Maybe He Should Have Told Her Closer to Home, shot on Scarlet. Sebastian gives a great field report from the shoot that covers shooting in RAW, data storage, their rig, the battery, sound and even the weather. Watch the film and read his notes for a fuller picture of the Scarlet experience.

Engadget also showcases several clips shot on Scarlet.

    THE HOBBIT TRAILER DEBUTS

    image

The long-awaited trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit made its debut tonight on Apple trailers. (Watch it there in HD.)

This means a great deal to us at RED. Jackson is shooting the film in 48 frames per second 3D on his 48 RED EPICs. And even more than that, Jackson took to RED cameras from our beginnings and his support has bolstered us.

    Jim explained yesterday on REDUSER.net:

It is hard to describe how important this is for RED, and to me personally.

Peter embraced RED from the beginning. He invited us to New Zealand to test our RED ONE prototypes and to shoot “something” for NAB. That something turned out to be gathering an army and shooting “Crossing the Line”.

“The Hobbit” is destined to be (no words capable to describe)…

How proud are we to have taken our camera concept to the ultimate cinema experience? Incredibly so… this is the big one.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens on December 14, 2012.

    EPIC + LEICA-M + PIER 59

    Epic and Leica Mount Testing
    Join the discussion on REDUSER

Pier 59 with the assistance of Leica have been testing the RED DSMC Leica-M mount in NY this week… The results have been incredible.

    Justin Stailey from Leica shares:

“I had a dream 10 years ago that I would mount our Noctilux-M onto a small “box” and motion would come out of it. Today that dream came true. It was Epic.

Now that EPIC works with the LEICA-M mount, RED has just opened cinema to the world of still photography in a way that no other motion picture camera has ever been able to do."
