Estimate Recording Time With RED Cameras

Knowing the data rate is often critical for predicting media requirements and production costs. This tool can help you get an initial estimate.

Results represent averages over the course of a typical recording, and may vary depending on subject matter or shooting duration. Pushing the recording time too close to the listed maximum therefore risks running out of space. Prior to any mission-critical shoot, it's always recommended to perform your own tests using typical camera settings and shooting conditions, and to have extra storage space just in case.

Also be sure to enter the usable storage space for a given media type, not the total storage space. For example, a 128 GB SSD often has no more than 120 GB of usable space once formatted.

Note that available settings will depend on camera model. For example, 5K resolution and 24 fps is not possible with a SCARLET-X™. Consult your latest operations guide for a list of available REDCODE, resolution and frame rate combinations.
