NOTE: Download the latest versions of REDCINE-X PRO and the REDROCKET Installer or the REDROCKET-X Installer from red.com/downloads.

IMPORTANT:

  • You cannot downgrade an EPICMYSTERIUM-X to earlier than v5.3.49, v6.0.44 or v6.2.25 after upgrading to v6.3.106.
  • You cannot downgrade an SCARLETMYSTERIUM-X to earlier than v5.3.49, v6.0.44 or v6.2.25 after upgrading to v6.3.106.
  • You cannot downgrade an EPIC or SCARLETDRAGON to earlier than v5.3.49, v6.0.44 or v6.2.25 after upgrading to v6.3.106.
  • You must upgrade your REDMOTE firmware to v9.6.×. Download the firmware upgrade from red.com/downloads.

  • It can take the camera up to 8.5 minutes to update firmware for the RED Touch 7" LCD. The LCD displays a progress screen during the update. If your camera loses power during the update, turn your camera back on. The LCD upgrade restarts. During the upgrade, the LCD is blank and the PWR/REC LEDs flash green.

UPGRADEDSMCFIRMWARE TO v6.3.106

NOTE: User Preset, Look, and Custom Overlay files will be preserved across upgrades of v6.2.3 or later.

1. Connect an SSD (REDMINI-MAG or REDMAG 1.8") to your computer.

2. Download the most recent firmware from www.red.com/downloads.

3. Unzip the firmware zip file.

4. Copy the force_upgrade folder and its contents to the top level of the SSD directory.

5. Eject or unmount the SSD, and then remove the SSD.

5. Ensure the camera is powered down and the REDMOTE is undocked.

6. Insert the SSD with the force_upgrade folder into your DSMC.

7. Power up the DSMC.

The upgrade automatically runs at power up.
During upgrade, the fans run at high speed and the PWR and REC LEDs flash green. After approximately 15 seconds, the LEDs stop flashing and the camera powers down. Nothing displays on the external monitors during the upgrade.

8. After the camera powers down, remove the SSD and wait 10 seconds.

9. Power up the camera.

The camera may take 30 seconds or longer to upgrade all the attached modules. During this time the PWR and REC LEDs flash green and nothing displays on the external monitors.

10. Go to Menu > Settings > Maintenance > System Status > Camera Info and verify that the firmware version listed matches the firmware version that you downloaded.

11. Reformat the SSD before recording to it.

2. Download the most recent firmware from www.red.com/downloads.

3. Unzip the firmware zip file.

4. Copy the force_upgrade folder and its contents to the top level of the SSD directory.

5. Eject or unmount the SSD, and then remove the SSD.

5. Ensure the camera is powered down and the REDMOTE is undocked.

6. Insert the SSD with the force_upgrade folder into your DSMC.

7. Power up the DSMC.

DSMC Release Build v6.0.46 February 2, 2016

NOTE: Download the latest versions of REDCINE-X PRO and the REDROCKET Installer or the REDROCKET-X Installer from red.com/downloads.

IMPORTANT:

  • You must black shade an EPICDRAGON or SCARLETDRAGON after upgrading it.
  • Upgrading your camera deletes all in-camera user-generated Preset, Look, and Custom Overlay files.
  • You cannot downgrade an EPIC or SCARLETDRAGON to earlier than v5.3.49, v6.0.44 or v6.2.25 after upgrading to v6.0.46.
  • You cannot downgrade an EPICMYSTERIUM-X to earlier than v5.3.49, v6.0.44 or v6.2.25 after upgrading to v6.0.46.
  • You cannot downgrade an SCARLETMYSTERIUM-X to earlier than v5.3.49, v6.0.44 or v6.2.25 after upgrading to v6.0.46.
  • You must upgrade your REDMOTE firmware to v9.3.×. Download the firmware upgrade from red.com/downloads.
  • Refer to the REDDSMC Operation Guide, available at red.com/downloads, for REDMOTE upgrade instructions.
  • Preset files created only on v4.0.x or later are compatible with v6.0.46.
  • It can take the camera up to 8.5 minutes to update firmware for the RED Touch 7" LCD. The LCD displays a progress screen during the update. If your camera loses power during the update, turn your camera back on. The LCD upgrade restarts. During the upgrade, the LCD is blank and the PWR/REC LEDs flash green.

UPGRADEDSMCFIRMWARE TO v6.0.46

NOTE: Upgrading your camera deletes all in-camera user-generated Preset, Look, and Custom Overlay files.

1. If you have user-generated preset files on your camera, follow the instructions below to save the files to an SSD:
A. Power up the camera, insert an SSD (REDMINI-MAG or REDSTATIONREDMAG 1.8") into the camera, and format the SSD.
B. Go to Menu > Presets and copy user-generated Camera Preset and Look files to the SSD.
C. Go to Menu > Settings > Display > Monitor Control and copy user-generated Overlay files to the SSD.
D. Shut down the camera, and remove the SSD. You will copy the files back to your camera after the upgrade procedure, as described in Step 13.

2. Connect an SSD (REDMINI-MAG or REDSTATIONREDMAG 1.8") to your computer.

NOTE: On Mac computers with REDCINE-X PRO installed, RED Watchdog mounts the SSD as Read-Only by default, which means that you are unable to write files (including firmware upgrade files) to the SSD. Change the Mount preference to Read-Write before attempting to copy firmware to the SSD.

3. Download the most recent firmware from www.red.com/downloads.

4. Unzip the firmware zip file.

5. Copy the force_upgrade folder and its contents to the top level of the SSD directory.

6. Eject or unmount the SSD, and then remove the SSD.

7. Ensure the camera is powered down and the REDMOTE is undocked.

8. Insert the SSD with the force_upgrade folder into your DSMC.

9. Power up the DSMC.

The upgrade automatically runs at power up.
During upgrade, the fans run at high speed and the PWR and REC LEDs flash green. After approximately 15 seconds, the LEDs stop flashing and the camera powers down. Nothing displays on the external monitors during the upgrade.

10. After the camera powers down, remove the SSD and wait 10 seconds.

11. Power up the camera.

The camera may take 30 seconds or longer to upgrade all the attached modules. During this time the PWR and REC LEDs flash green and nothing displays on the external monitors.

12. Go to Menu > Settings > Maintenance > System Status > Camera Info and verify that the firmware version listed matches the firmware version that you downloaded.

13. To restore user-generated preset files to your camera, follow the instructions below:
A. Power up the camera and insert the SSD with the saved preset files into the camera.
B. Go to Menu > Presets and copy user-generated Camera Preset and Look files from the SSD to the camera.
C. Go to Menu > Settings > Display > Monitor Control and copy user-generated Overlay files from the SSD to the camera.

14. After upgrading an EPICDRAGON or SCARLETDRAGON, go to Menu > Settings > Maintenance > Calibrate > Sensor and black shade your camera using the Black Shading (default) option.

NOTE: You must black shade an EPICDRAGON or SCARLETDRAGON after upgrading it.

15. After offloading firmware upgrade files and/or preset files from any SSD, reformat the SSD before recording to it.
