Release Notes

RED 3-Axis Lens Control System Firmware includes:

  • Wireless Motor Driver (W.M.D.) Firmware v1.1
  • Tactical Hand Controller (T.H.C.) Firmware 703

Wireless Motor Driver (W.M.D.) – v1.1 Firmware March 06, 2014

NOTE: Download the latest version W.M.D. and T.H.C. firmware from www.red.com/support.

IMPORTANT:

*Refer to the RED 3-Axis Lens Control System Operation Guide for detailed W.M.D. upgrade instructions.

INSTALLATIONINSTRUCTIONS:

1. Download and unzip the latest RED 3-Axis System firmware package.
2. Insert the microSD (with SD adapter) into your computer.
3. Format the microSD to FAT32. If using a Mac, format to MS-DOS (FAT).
4. Copy the .upg firmware file to the root directory of the formatted microSD.

NOTE: DO NOT copy the upgrade file into a subfolder.

5. Eject the microSD from your computer.
6. Insert the microSD into the slot on the bottom of the W.M.D.
7. Connect power to the W.M.D. The power LED (green) flashes rapidly and the LCD displays - UPGRADING -.
8. Wait for — DONE — to be displayed on the LCD.
9. Power off the W.M.D.
10. Eject the microSD.
11. Connect power to the W.M.D.
12. During power up, verify the W.M.D. displays v1.1 on the main screen.

Upgrade Complete.

Significant changes since previous build v1.0:

  • Added functions to A and B buttons
  • Added Options menu item to UI
  • Added color coded Lens Profile indicator to display
  • Added timeout to lock the UI and display the home screen.
  • Added wireless strength indicator to display
  • Added edit capability for metadata profiles
  • Added support for metadata output at EXP port
  • Fix crash when T.H.C. is connected
  • Fix large current spikes on direction change
  • Fix iris metadata format
  • Fix status page display on error
  • Fix invalid lens metadata after moving motor to infinity

Operational notes specific to Build v1.1:

NOTE: Download the latest version T.H.C. and W.M.D. firmware from www.red.com/support.

IMPORTANT:

*Refer to the RED 3-Axis Lens Control System Operation Guide for detailed T.H.C. upgrade instructions.

INSTALLATIONINSTRUCTIONS:

1. Download and unzip the latest RED 3-Axis System firmware package.
2. Insert the microSD (with SD adapter) into your computer.
3. Format the microSD to FAT32. If using a Mac, format to MS-DOS (FAT).
4. Copy the .bin firmware file to the root directory of the formatted microSD.

NOTE: DO NOT copy the upgrade file into a subfolder.

5. Power off the T.H.C. and remove the battery (if present).
6. Insert the microSD into the holder in the T.H.C. battery bay.

NOTE: Slide the holder towards the edge of the T.H.C. and lift to unlock.

7. Insert the battery or connect the CAN cable to the T.H.C.
8. Power on the T.H.C. to initiate the upgrade. The battery LED flashes rapidly for approximately 15 seconds.
9. Wait for the battery LED to stop flashing.
10. Power off the T.H.C. and remove the battery if present.
11. Remove the microSD card from the T.H.C. holder.

Upgrade complete.

Significant changes since previous release:

  • Added setting of wireless channel using buttons
  • Added wireless connection capability on configured channel without sync
  • Fix Iris slider operation with low battery
  • Update battery warning/error levels
