    • EPIC firmware v1.6.x series firmware requires REDMote firmware upgrade (v771) to be functional
    • Once you upgrade to REDmote firmware v771, you cannot rollback to be compatible with EPIC firmware v1.4.7 or earlier
    • If after upgrading your EPIC to v1.6.34 and upgrading your REDmote v771, your REDmote will not wirelessly connect to your EPIC and “REDLINK update required, please contact RED” is displayed on the camera, then your EPIC and REDmote may need to be sent back to RED for evaluation/updating. Please save a .LOG file and send to RED Technical Support to diagnose and confirm next steps.
    • If after upgrading your EPIC to v1.6.34, “New fan available, please contact RED” is displayed on the camera, then your EPIC may need a newer generation fan. Please contact RED Technical Support to have the fan sent to you. RED will provide installation instructions. Or, if you prefer, RED will install for you.

Installation Instructions for EPIC Build 1 v1.6.34 camera firmware:

    • Uncompress the v1.6.34 firmware zip file.
    • Using RED STATION REDMAG 1.8", copy the “force_upgrade” folder and it’s contents to the top level of the REDMAG® 1.8" SSD directory.
    • Eject or unmount the SSD, then remove the SSD from RED STATION.
    • Ensure camera is powered down.
    • Remove Side Handle and/or REDmote if installed on the camera.
    • Connect an AC power adapter to the camera.
      • IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE BATTERIES TO POWER CAMERA DURING THIS PROCEDURE.
    • Insert the SSD into your EPIC and power up. Force upgrade will automatically run on power up only and will not display anything on the external monitors. During upgrade, the fans will run at hi speed and the PWR and REC LEDs will blink Green. After about 45 seconds the LEDs will stop blinking and the camera will power down.
    • Remove the SSD from the camera, wait 10 seconds.
    • Power up the camera. The green lights will flash for about a minute if the original build is earlier than 1.6.20.
      • IMPORTANT: THE CAMERA MUST NOT BE SHUTDOWN OR LOSE POWER AT THIS POINT OR THE CAMERA WILL NOT COME BACK UP.
    • Go to the SETTINGS / SYSTEM / MAINTENANCE menu and verify that the camera monitor output(s) report back – Version 1.6.34 and PIN (value specific to camera)
    • Installation is now complete.
Note: After the firmware upgrade, it is mandatory that you re-format the REDMAG SSDs before use.
