Pier 59 with the assistance of Leica have been testing the RED DSMC Leica-M mount in NY this week... The results have been incredible.
Justin Stailey from Leica
"I had a dream 10 years ago that I would mount our Noctilux-M onto a small "box" and motion would come out of it. Today that dream came true. It was Epic."
"Now that EPIC works with the LEICA-M mount, RED has just opened cinema to the world of still photography in a way that no other motion picture camera has ever been able to do."
Steven Sebring from Pier 59 Studios:
"The EPIC is a great camera, now with the LEICA-M mount, I can truly shoot hand-held; just as if I had a medium format still camera, or a Bolex 16mm motion picture camera. The M mount gives us access to the best lenses and is as compact as I need to be truly portable."
Tony Jay from Pier 59 Studios:
"When I heard that click sound between the Leica Lens and the Epic... I knew it was the REAL DEAL!!! It was Epic !!!"
Director: Dan Martensen & Director of Photography: Mark Anton Read, have shot 100% of the motion imaging in H&M’s Fashion Against AIDS 2011 Campaign, exclusively with RED EPIC with the new M mount and the LEICA-M mount 50mm f/0.95 NOCTILUX lens.
"The campaign distribution and installation includes World-Wide location based displays of many different aspect ratios ranging from narrow-portrait, to square, to extreme-anamorphic-landscape and in various resolutions that are multiple times greater than HDTV plus on-line and distributed media. We had access to several other LEICA M-MOUNT lenses, as well as a broad range of Master Prime and Zoom lenses, but once we started shooting with the M-MOUNT NOCTILUX, Dan & I saw no reason to flip to another lens."
Mark Anton Read adds:
"The NOCTILUX is the END-OF-THE-LINE in available light candid image capture; it is not just about the speed of, but the ineffable mystique of the lens. Similarly, it is not enough to simply put this lens on a camera; the RED EPIC is the perfect match, as it brings the handheld, LEICA-M single operator world of voyeuristic street photography Into the realm of cinema."
