After taking home 3 Video Music Awards from MTV for videos shot on RED cameras, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis could have rested on their laurels a bit. Instead they wasted no time in releasing White Walls -- another ambitious music video celebrating Cadillacs and a cross-section of their eclectic owners. The 6-minute video was shot over 14 days in several different locations in Los Angeles and Seattle.

In addition to the music video, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis created a behind-the-scenes short giving great insight into how they create such expansive, cinematic videos. In the BTS featurette, Ryan Lewis discusses the themes of the video, how it came together and gives a detailed view of the gear used. Covering their switch from Steadicams to the MoVI camera gimbal and an inside look at their setups and cameras, the video shows off the hard work and thought that goes into creating a loose summertime feel.

Ryan Lewis, who directed the video, talks about their use of RED:

"We shot White Walls entirely on REDs which has become our standard. It's what we shot Can't Hold Us, Same Love, Thrift Shop, tour videos... REDs have become our tried and true. And that's for a lot of reasons. You can look at our relationship with them -- being a small company that makes an incredible product. They're also a company of integrity and a company that wanted to be involved in us running out and shooting these random videos."

This sort of in-depth look at their own process is one of the many things that sets Macklemore and Ryan Lewis apart from their contemporaries. It's exciting to see hugely successful musical artists dedicated to doing as much themselves as possible. Their success and DIY dedication surely aren't mutually exclusive.
